Ron Paul: pro-choice?
Apparently some people think that because Ron Paul wants to leave abortion up to the state governments rather than the Feds, he is pro-choice. This is totally false.
First, the other choices we have are definitely not pro-life. Even Santorum, hailed as “the Christian candidate” by evangelicals before he dropped out, voted at least 5 times for bills that included funding for Planned Parenthood. And Mitt Romney, of course, is a notorious flip-flopper. Check out his old stances on abortion – does he really seem trustworthy?
Back to Ron Paul. Dr. Paul, as you may know, is not a career politician. He is an OBGYN and is very much dedicated to preserving and protecting life. Please watch Dr. Paul on abortion in this short video:
Unlike Mitt Romney, Ron Paul has been consistently pro-life. You don’t have to trust me, you can go back and just look at his speeches and voting records for decades back.
Now, about Dr. Paul and states’s rights on abortion…
1. States prosecute murder without intervention from the federal government. Do you propose to take this prerogative away from states, too?
2. The alternative is to elect a long line of pro-life presidents, hope they elect enough Supreme Court Justices to one day over turn Roe v Wade, AND keep electing pro-life candidates so that it is not later overturned. This is the plan since Roe v Wade, how’s it working for YOU? It will NEVER happen using this approach! NEVER! If you insist on making it a federal issue, you are insuring that it always stays legal!
3. The ONLY hope of limiting/outlawing abortion in most states is by making it a states issue! Otherwise, it stays just like it is now!
4. The Constitution does not give this jurisdiction to the federal government.
“If you can’t protect life you can’t protect liberty, because liberty is a consequence of life.” -Ron Paul
“It is much more difficult for pro-life advocates to win politically at the federal level. Those who seek a pro-life culture must accept that we will never persuade 300 million Americans to agree with us. Our focus should be on overturning Roe and getting the federal government completely out of the business of regulating state matters. A pro-life culture can be built only from the ground up, person by person. For too long we have viewed the battle as purely political, but no political victory can change a degraded culture. A pro-life culture must arise from each of us as individuals, not by the edict of an amoral federal government.” -Ron Paul
